Greengage strengthens ECOsmart support for hotel groups as EU green rules take effect

New group functionality will make sustainability certification simpler to manage across multi-property portfolios

Greengage Solutions is developing new group functionality for its ECOsmart sustainability certification, designed to make certification easier to roll out and manage across large hotel portfolios.

The development will allow more information and evidence that applies across a hotel group to be managed centrally, reducing duplication and the administrative burden on individual properties.

It builds on existing ECOsmart technology, including SMARTscan AI, which helps speed up data gathering. New functionality being developed includes a Group Dashboard, designed to give sustainability and operations teams a central view of certification across their estate.

The development comes as new EU rules on environmental claims and sustainability labels take effect. Since 27 September 2026, measures implementing the EU Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive will increase scrutiny of environmental claims and sustainability labels used in business-to-consumer marketing.

Andrew Perolls, CEO of Greengage Solutions, said: “Hotel groups shouldn’t have to multiply the workload every time they add another property to their sustainability certification.

“We’re building on ECOsmart’s existing technology to make certification easier to manage across an entire estate, while reducing duplication for individual hotels. With the strengthening of rules on environmental claims, credible, evidence-based certification is becoming even more important.”

ECOsmart is Greengage Solutions’ independently audited sustainability certification for hotels and meeting venues. Greengage supports hotel groups through the certification process, while individual properties are assessed against the ECOsmart standard.
