Stress Matters team up with the University of Hertfordshire on 2021 event industry wellbeing research

Since 2017, Stress Matters have been conducting research into the events industry to understand the state of wellbeing of the event professionals.  Over this time, they have worked closely with industry communities and associations to reduce stigma and to provide support services to the industry.

The working group includes Allan Jepson, the chair of the Association for Events Management Education (AEME) and Senior Lecturer and researcher at the University of Hertfordshire, Raphaela Stadler, Senior Lecturer in Event Management, Tourism and Hospitality also at the University of Hertfordshire Trudie Walters, President of the Australia and New Zealand Association for Leisure Studies and Research Fellow in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand and the Stress Matters team led by Laura Capell-Abra.

“We are delighted to be working with the team at Stress Matters on this important piece of research.  They have made a significant contribution to the industry’s understanding of wellbeing and mental health and we are excited about delving into the data and gaining a really good understanding of the future of the events industry.” Share Jepson, Stadler and Walters.

Capell-Abra tells us that, “I have worked closely with the University of Hertfordshire for a number of years now and their commitment to educating our future #eventprofs has always impressed me.  Allan, Raphaela and the wider team share my deep belief that our industry does not need to be stressful and that we can find a way of working well in a deadline-driven industry.”

They intend on reaching 500 respondents from across the industry in a survey launching on 15th March 2021 and are also conducting multiple interviews with a number of professionals within the industry to note changes in attitudes and approaches to wellbeing.

The results of the research will be shared with the industry to support everyone in improving workplace wellbeing in this particularly challenging period for our sector.  The results will continue to inform the Stress Matters pledge scheme which supports businesses that want to assess and improve the wellbeing of their team’s whilst being accredited based on their progress.

The team request that all individuals willing to participate in this research register here to be sent the survey when it is launched.
