Luxury Chester hotel set to host exclusive evening with rugby legends as part of popular sporting series

A luxury hotel in the heart of Chester is set to host the next instalment of its highly-anticipated sporting series, where guests can indulge in a three-course meal in the company of three rugby union legends — with limited tickets still available.

The Chester Grosvenor, a renowned five-star hotel nestled on the cobbled streets of Chester, is delighted to be welcoming Ryan Jones MBE, Kelly Brown and Simon Shaw MBE for an evening of fine-dining, anecdotes and rich rugby history.

The Captains Club, which is set to take place on Thursday 31st August, will see attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with the rugby legends and participate in lively conversation — delving into the finer points of their careers, and gaining insights into the strategies that led to their triumphs on and off the pitch.

Ryan Jones MBE is a former Welsh international rugby union player who played at number eight, blindside flanker or second row. He was involved in three Grand Slam wins, in 2005, as captain in 2008, and 2012. Ryan is one of a small group of Welsh players to have won three Grand Slams in their career.

Joining Ryan is Kelly Brown, a Scottish rugby union coach and former player. He won 64 caps for the Scottish national team and played club rugby for Glasgow Warriors, Border Reivers and Saracens as a flanker. He eventually retired in 2017 to become a coach with Saracens’ academy.

Completing the lineup is Simon Shaw MBE, a former English rugby union player who played as a lock. He played for Bristol, London Wasps and Toulon — whilst also winning 71 caps for England between 1996 and 2011, and two for the British and Irish Lions, with whom he toured three times.

Starting at 7pm, guests will enjoy a delicious three-course meal in the hotel’s 3 AA Rosette restaurant, Arkle — accompanied by half a bottle of Sommelier’s choice wine, coffee and petit fours. Guests will then enjoy an evening of behind the scenes stories with a Q&A session at the end.

Steve Ogden, General Manager at The Chester Grosvenor, commented: “We are thrilled to bring together rugby enthusiasts for a truly unforgettable evening. This exclusive event at The Chester Grosvenor promises to be a celebration of rugby’s rich history with eye-opening stories from these three legends. Tickets are still available and selling quickly, so if you don’t want to miss out, make sure to get your place booked!”

With the existing building dating back to 1865, The Chester Grosvenor is a Grade II listed hotel located in the centre of Chester next to the iconic Eastgate Clock, near Chester Cathedral and the ancient city walls of the famous northern English town. It boasts 67 bedrooms and 12 suites, each one full of character and individual appeal.

Steve added: “Our aim is always to create a memorable experience for our guests, and The Captains Club looks to connect them with sporting royalty — whilst also providing a five-star culinary service.”
