Hospitality Rocks Raises £35,500 For Industry Charities

Hospitality Rocks made a triumphant return on Friday, January 12, 2024, in a stunning ‘Carnivale’ themed extravaganza, with over 2,000 enthusiastic hospitality professionals in attendance, the sold-out event took place at Smart Group’s flagship venue, Evolution London. In the face of escalating challenges confronting the hospitality sector, ranging from rail strikes to the cost-of-living crisis, staff shortages, and surging costs of produce and energy, Hospitality Rocks exceeded expectations by raising an impressive £35,500 for industry charities Springboard and Hospitality Action. This remarkable achievement underscores the resilience and collective commitment of the hospitality community to overcome obstacles and support its own.

Party-goers embarked on an immersive journey to South America, with a production of epic proportions. An awe-inspiring installation seamlessly transported guests from the vibrant streets of Brazil to the pulsating energy of Argentina, and the enchanting allure of Chile. The experience unfolded across four themed bars, with the main bar, Mambo, paying homage to the iconic floats of the Rio Carnival, alongside The Voodoo Lounge, Hex, and Jinx—specialised havens for Tequila and Rum enthusiasts.

The evening included a tapestry of mesmerising entertainment, orchestrated by industry-leading choreographers. Singers, dancers and silk aerialists captivated the audience, their performances unfolding amidst a decadent banquet crafted by Smart Group’s renowned catering arm, Moving Venue. The renowned Rockaoke made a triumphant return, giving guests the unique opportunity to take the stage alongside The Rick Parfitt Junior Band. Adding to the musical extravaganza, was Duke, a hip-hop vocal act, RPJ a 12-piece band that delivered a sensational performance, and the night concluded with a top London DJ, ensuring a stylish and unforgettable finale.

During December, the industry is busy taking care of festivities for other sectors, so in January 2017, Smart Group, led by CEO Greg Lawson, launched Hospitality Rocks as a dedicated Christmas party for the hospitality and events industry. Now in its sixth year, the much talked about event continues to provide industry professionals a chance to let their hair down and say a big ‘thank you’ for all their hard work.

Greg Lawson commented: “It has been an absolute joy to host Hospitality Rocks once again, providing a vivid reminder of the exhilarating industry we are privileged to work in. We take immense pride in helping both Springboard and Hospitality Action—two commendable charities steadfast in supporting our invaluable workers.

Our industry stands out for its remarkable diversity, boasting a rich culture brimming with creativity and unwavering determination. Despite navigating through these challenging times, we have yet again returned with renewed vigour, presenting an event that surpasses previous editions in both scale and excellence. This year’s festivities were nothing short of spectacular, featuring exceptional food and hospitality, underscoring Smart Group’s reputation as the premier party-throwers in town. Hospitality Rocks is our dedicated time to celebrate and celebrate we do!”

Money was raised through a series of initiatives including an auction, dodgems and even a luge, with Smart Group also donating 10% of every ticket sale to the charities.

Springboard helps young people achieve their potential and nurtures unemployed people of any age into work. It helps alleviate poverty by supporting disadvantaged and underprivileged people into sustainable employment within hospitality leisure and tourism.

Hospitality Action, established in 1837, supports those who currently work or who have worked in the industry who find themselves in crisis. The organisation runs several educational seminars for catering students, provides grants for essential items including food, equipment and central heating and supports isolated and lonely retired hospitality workers.
