At 15Hatfields, every decision we make is carefully considered with sustainability at heart. As one of London’s most sustainable events venues, every decision is an opportunity to raise the bar. So, when it came time to upgrade our seating, we weren’t just replacing chairs—we were reaffirming our commitment to sustainability and seeking partners who share our values.
As pioneers in sustainable event management, we view sustainability not as a checklist, but as a shared responsibility and a lens through which every procurement decision is made. Our new seating needed to balance environmental integrity with comfort, safety, and flexibility for the thousands of delegates we welcome each year. Aesthetics and functionality were essential, but so was traceability and recyclability.
We had to ensure that our outgoing furniture would not go to waste. Repurposing or recycling the used chairs was non-negotiable. We needed a partner who could help us close the loop.
Solution
We turned to Chart Interiors, a supplier that understands the level of scrutiny we apply to every detail of our operations. They presented us with a range of sample chairs from sustainable manufacturers, including options made from ocean plastics, but none struck the right balance of durability, stackability, design and environmental performance. That is, until we tried Casala’s Lynx X1.
Chart Interiors supported us in evaluating each chair, and it quickly became clear that Casala offered the complete package. Their Lynx X1 model not only met our design and functionality needs, but reflected the circular economy values we hold dear.
The Lynx X1 chair brings together ergonomic comfort, modern aesthetics, and industry-leading linking technology which allows the chairs to be connected quickly and safely without tools. For our events team, this speeds up setup and improves safety. For our sustainability focus, it ticks every box.
Each chair includes a frame made from 80% recycled steel and a seat shell composed of 10% glass fibre-reinforced polypropylene, making it up to 100% recyclable. That level of traceability was essential for us. Casala’s production facilities in the Netherlands are powered by 1,400 solar panels, with additional renewable energy coming from European wind farms—further reducing the environmental footprint.
What truly sealed the deal was Casala’s Take-Back Guarantee. This programme ensures that our outgoing chairs will not end up in landfill. Instead, they will be responsibly disassembled and returned to Casala for reuse or material recovery. Better still, Casala can keep us posted on the future of our chairs. When they’re ready for a new lease of life, we’re able to follow their journey and see where they have been brought back to life once again.
We believe that what you do with materials after their primary use matters just as much as how they’re made. Chart Interiors understood our project brief perfectly.
Result
By collaborating with Chart Interiors and Casala, we’ve been able to achieve a seating solution that doesn’t compromise on function or sustainability. The Lynx X1 is already delivering benefits to our team and delegates, from improved comfort to faster room turnarounds. But more than that, it’s proof that smart design and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
Ensuring the materials are reintroduced into future production sets the tone for the future of our venue and we encourage others in the industry to adopt the same way of thinking.
For us, this project wasn’t just about chairs. It was about setting a new benchmark for responsible procurement and working with partners who share our vision.
