Collaboration is key

by Emmanuelle Clément

There is a lot of of value in teaming up with other businesses – whether it be in different industries or the very same industry in which we work.

For projects that touch upon various areas of expertise or just require greater manpower than what you can provide solo, linking arms with a trusted expert network provides power, intellect, experience and creativity at a new level.

That’s exactly what Green Sense Events did

The client

Their client supports partnerships that deliver on commitments for deforestation-free commodities, reduce the pressure on forests and improve livelihoods.

The event

Their objectives were to bring together staff, partners, government clients and investors in an annual event in London, provide an opportunity for their partners (based in West and Central Africa, East Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America) to share their knowledge and expertise, develop existing relationships and make new meaningful business and investment connections.

The team

Green Sense Events and Responsible Events teamed together to deliver a carbon neutral hybrid conference and exhibition event. This involved carbon footprint measurement, a waste management plan, sustainable suppliers management, setting-up and managing the Cvent platform and on-site project management.

The result
It was a rewarding experience with over 400 in-person and virtual attendees, 59 exhibitors in the state-of-the-art campus of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, great team work with the client’s team, venue and suppliers.

The aim was to reduce the carbon emissions as much as possible and then offset what was remaining thus creating a carbon neutral event. In order to do this, the client will be investing in the Colombia Pacific Acai and Gola Cocoa project to both reduce and sequester carbon from the atmosphere.

The largest portion of the overall carbon footprint was generated from unavoidable travel and transport which accounted for 316 tCO2e of the overall figure however by choosing a venue that was based in central London this also meant good transport links to the venue and hotels within walking distance. The overall carbon footprint is detailed below. The per head amount is broken down into an in-person figure and an online figure.

We can continue to do a lot more in planning our events to make sure they are more sustainable.
