Cambridge venues sign up to new sustainability initiative

Meet Cambridge, the official conference and events bureau for the city, is continuing to strengthen its sustainability credentials through a new partnership with Green Meetings, reinforcing Cambridge’s reputation as a leading destination for organisations looking to host more sustainable events.

Multiple venues across Meet Cambridge’s portfolio of over 50 in and around Cambridge have signed up to complete the Green Meetings sustainability accreditation, which will allow them to demonstrate a commitment to improving biodiversity, eliminating waste, and championing energy efficiency.

As more venues work towards the external accreditation, the initiative will help strengthen Cambridge’s reputation as a sustainable meetings and events destination, giving event organisers greater confidence when selecting the city for conferences and events.

Sarah Maycock, Sustainability Lead at Meet Cambridge, said: “Creating sustainable events has been a mission of ours over the past few years, and Green Meetings is the latest evolution of this. We’re pleased to support the participating venues as they take the next steps on their sustainability journey and strengthen Cambridge’s reputation as a sustainable destination.”

The Green Meetings certification provides confidence to corporate buyers who want the reassurance of third-party certification when choosing suppliers. This is particularly important as sustainability has become a core criterion for event organisers, influencing destination choice, supplier selection and overall event design, according to the Event Industry Council – Sustainability Insights Report 2025.

Every assessment is verified by Green Meetings’ expert assessors, giving reassurance to buyers that the venues have sustainable operations and practices. This will make it easier for event planners to identify venues that are actively taking steps to reduce their environmental impact and support their own sustainability objectives.
