A campaign asking people to imagine Birmingham’s future will have a visible presence at one of the city’s biggest annual gatherings this week, as Birmingham 2050 brings its public engagement booth to Millennium Point’s International Women’s Day Conference and Exhibition.
Attendees at Wednesday’s event will be invited to step up to the Birmingham 2050 booth in the Millennium Point atrium and record a short video or audio message answering one question: What do you want Birmingham to be like in 2050? No preparation or agenda, just an idea and a few minutes to share it.
The activation is the latest step in a campaign that has been building since the beginning of March. Last week, Birmingham 2050 was presented to city leaders and community figures at Millennium Point’s STEM Roundtable, a regular forum where people help shape Birmingham’s future, gathering to think about what comes next.
Abbie Vlahakis, CEO of Millennium Point, said: “Birmingham 2050 is about giving people a voice in their future. Bringing the campaign into conversations with city leaders matters, but creating space for everyone to be part of it is just as important. This booth is a simple way for people to stop, think and say what kind of city they want to see.”
The International Women’s Day Conference and Exhibition is a natural home for the campaign. With an audience ranging from students to senior professionals, it is exactly the kind of gathering where diverse, forward-looking voices come together in one room.
All contributions recorded at the booth will feed into the wider Birmingham 2050 campaign, which is gathering ideas and perspectives from across the city. Online submissions remain open at birmingham2050.co.uk until 17 July.
The Birmingham 2050 booth will be open in Millennium Point’s atrium on Wednesday 25 March during the International Women’s Day Conference and Exhibition. Tickets are free. Sign up at:
