Gala de Danza made dazzling European debut at Central Hall Westminster

Central Hall Westminster provided the stage for Gala de Danza’s European debut, delivering three breathtaking shows that combined world-class musicians, dancers and choreographers under its iconic dome.

Objective

Founded in Los Cabos, Mexico, in 2013, Gala de Danza has established itself as a global festival celebrating incredible artistry across music, dance, and visual performance.

For its London premiere, the team behind Gala de Danza looked for a venue that could reflect the event’s international prestige while offering the technical capacity to support an exceptionally diverse programme.

The performances featured operatic countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński, guitar prodigy Marcin, French dance troupe Murmuration, London’s Rambert, William Close & The Earth Harp, and stars from The Royal Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, and New York City Ballet. In addition, the program included world premieres by choreographers Juliano Nunes and Jade Hale-Christofi, as well as performances by UK International Latin Ballroom Champions and rising talents from Youth America Grand Prix.

To accommodate a cast of over 150 performers and crew, the venue needed:

  • Ample backstage and dressing room space for dancers, musicians, and technical teams.
  • Bespoke staging with professional Harlequin flooring, created in partnership with White Light.
  • A highly customised AV set-up, ensuring balance between live musicians and amplified scores, as well as theatrical lighting designed to showcase intricate choreography.
  • Smooth logistics for cast movements, rehearsals, and VIP hospitality.

Execution

Central Hall Westminster’s Great Hall was transformed into a festival stage unlike any other in London. Working closely with White Light and Harlequin Flooring, the CHW team oversaw the installation of a bespoke performance floor tailored to professional dance standards.

The extensive AV brief required precision. A custom lighting and sound rig were designed to balance the needs of dancers and live musicians, with specialist mic placements and monitoring to ensure seamless transitions between performances. Lighting designers highlighted the grandeur of the Great Hall’s architecture while keeping focus on the performers.

Backstage logistics were a central challenge given the scale of the production. CHW’s 22 flexible spaces were used extensively for dressing rooms, warm-up areas, equipment storage, and crew operations. When dancers requested additional rehearsal space, the team quickly adapted an extra room to ensure everyone had the environment they needed to prepare.

Audience experience was also carefully curated. VIPs were hosted with dedicated hospitality, including access to refreshment areas and a post-show dinner by Green & Fortune, created in collaboration with Michelin-starred chef, Cesar Pita, from Mexico to recreate a menu first developed for Gala de Danza abroad. Bringing this concept to London required sourcing UK ingredients, adapting cooking methods for an event kitchen, and coordinating service for 200 guests as one unified experience. Through virtual tours, tastings, and meticulous planning, the teams built a seamless partnership that delivered an unforgettable culinary performance to match the artistry on stage. Meanwhile, Gala de Danza added its own sensory layer to the production by diffusing a bespoke scent through the venue, further enhancing the immersive quality of the evening.

Despite the scale, CHW’s zoning systems, detailed schedules, and extended access hours kept rehearsals and performances running smoothly.

Results

Across three performances on 25 and 26 June, Gala de Danza welcomed over 3,400 audience members to its London debut. The first two performances each welcomed around 980 attendees, while the third performance attracted 1,430 attendees. The shows demonstrated CHW’s position as the largest venue in Westminster, capable of hosting large-scale, complex productions while combining technical sophistication with audience comfort and operational efficiency.

The collaboration between Gala de Danza, CHW, White Light, and Green & Fortune delivered a production that exceeded artistic and technical expectations. Feedback from both performers and audience was overwhelmingly positive, with the Great Hall’s grandeur and flexibility praised as an ideal setting for such an ambitious programme.

Christina Lyon, Founder of Gala de Danza, commented: “Central Hall Westminster offered an extraordinary setting to experience the magic of Gala de Danza. True to our motto, ‘Beautiful artistry in extraordinary places’, this remarkable venue provided the perfect stage for a world-class celebration of music, art and dance. We extend our sincere gratitude to the entire Central Hall Westminster team for their exceptional dedication, professionalism, and support in bringing this outstanding event to the heart of London.”

For CHW, Gala de Danza demonstrated the venue’s versatility, not only as a host for live music and broadcast events, but as a premier stage for international art performances.

Sarah Franczak, Chief Operating Officer, Central Hall Westminster, said: “We were delighted to welcome Gala de Danza for its London debut. Hosting such a world-class festival with a cast of over 100 performers was a complex but incredibly rewarding experience. The collaboration between our team, the organisers, and technical partners allowed the Great Hall to shine as an extraordinary stage for art performances around the world.”
