New framework includes updated Code of Practice, a Good Business Conduct Policy to replace its Code of Ethics, and the introduction of a Responsible Industry Charter
beam has officially released an enhanced governance framework, including an updated Code of Practice, a Good Business Conduct Policy and a Responsible Industry Charter, to reinforce clear industry standards.
The changes follow one of the most comprehensive governance reviews undertaken by the association in recent years, involving consultation with members and industry bodies including The Business Travel Association (BTA), The Meetings Industry Association (mia), the AIEA and Venue Directory. The Code of Practice is also supported by industry organisations including IACC and ABPCO, reinforcing its relevance across the meetings and events sector.
The outcome of the review is the introduction of an enhanced governance framework that new members and partners will commit to when joining beam, with existing members adopting the framework at their next renewal. The framework is built around beam’s pillars of resilience, innovation, ethics and quality. Underneath each pillar will sit core pledges relating to:
- beam’s updated Code of Practice, which is reviewed every three years to reflect the sector’s evolving needs
- A Good Business Conduct Policy, which replaces beam’s Code of Ethics
- A Responsible Industry Charter, newly introduced to reflect the industry’s growing focus on ESG priorities
The updated Code of Practice introduces enhanced guidance in several key operational areas, including commission processes and transparency, enquiry handling standards, payment terms and procedures, and guidance on instant book meetings.
As part of the review, beam has also launched a new Service Charge for MICE Toolkit, designed to support members who choose to implement service charges within meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions business, helping ensure any charges are applied through a clear, fair, transparent and well-communicated structure.
Sian Sayward, beam’s Governance Director said: “The latest review of beam’s Code of Practice has been one of the most significant pieces of work the association has undertaken in recent years. The result is an entirely updated governance framework which establishes a clear benchmark for how our industry operates and supports long-term confidence, resilience and professionalism.
“beam now provides greater clarity in areas fundamental to trust and effective commercial relationships, giving members increased transparency, consistency, and defined professional standards and responsible practices.”
Andrew Clarke, The BTA’s Commercial Director commented: “Collaboration between industry associations is vital when developing frameworks that support the business travel and meetings ecosystem and the BTA was pleased to support this review. Recognised standards like this create consistency, transparency and trust, and when industry bodies work together on them, it benefits the whole industry with a strengthened professionalism and reputation.”
beam’s Code of Practice is reviewed every three years, unless significant industry or legislative changes require an earlier review to ensure it remains relevant and effective.
