- Team from Searcys-managed 30 Euston Square takes on Wales’ highest mountain following last year’s Scafell Pike challenge
- The team has raised £1,400 so far for Hotel School, supporting people experiencing homelessness into careers in hospitality
- Snowdon challenge forms part of 30 Euston Square’s ongoing commitment to supporting its local community and charitable causes
A team from 30 Euston Square has taken on Snowdon, Wales’ highest mountain, raising £1,400 so far for Hotel School, one of Searcys’ nominated charities.
Following last year’s successful challenge to climb Scafell Pike, the team chose Snowdon as its next challenge, with ambitions already set on tackling Ben Nevis next year.
Hotel School was selected as the beneficiary because of its work supporting people experiencing homelessness into the hospitality industry. The cause also reflects 30 Euston Square’s wider commitment to giving back to the community, which includes its donation station supporting Shelter and its annual food donation to Euston Foodbank.
The Snowdon team was made up of 30 Euston Square colleagues, friends and family members, including Head of Sales Events and Marketing, Caterina Jane Alves, the Senior Events Manager Manuela and her partner, Event Manager Bryoney, Reception Manager Diogo and his partner, Sales Executive Lori and her partner, and the venue’s Management Apprentice and her friend.
While the team admits that formal training was somewhat limited, they tackled the challenge with plenty of mental preparation and team spirit. Taking the Watkins Path, the group climbed past waterfalls and fairy pools before reaching the summit, with good weather providing spectacular views across the Welsh landscape.
Caterina Jane Alves, Head of Sales Events and Marketing at 30 Euston Square, said: “We’d love to say we trained hard for Snowdon, but the reality is that we mostly mentally prepared each other and then tackled it! After taking on Scafell Pike last year, the team felt ready for their next mountain challenge- Snowdon. The weather was on our side, the views were incredible and walking the Watkins Path past the waterfalls and fairy pools made it a memorable day.
“The biggest highlight for me was simply spending the day with the team, although I can’t lie, reaching the summit was pretty special too. What we’ve taken away from both challenges is that we’re a great team. Whatever the goal, we work together to achieve it as a unit-and we have plenty of fun along the way.”
For the team, the experience provided plenty of individual highlights. Diogo enjoyed the company and the challenge of climbing Wales’ highest mountain, while Bryoney was particularly pleased to experience the views after missing them on her previous attempt due to poor weather. Manuela also highlighted the company, weather and views, while Lori was delighted by the sunshine – and the sheep encountered along the route.
For Management Apprentice Megan, the most challenging part came just before the summit, while reaching the top proved a highlight for the whole group.
The team is continuing to fundraise for Hotel School, with £1,400 raised so far. Those wishing to support the team can donate via the 30 Euston Square Hotel School JustGiving page.
